The Many Styles of Kung-fu
Below you will find a list of the most popular Kung-fu styles, and what separates them from the other styles. Monkey StyleWhile the fighting art of the monkey may be comical to watch, it can be devastating to opponents. Monkey-style Kung-fu is ideally suited to smaller statured people. It relies heavily on hopping and squatting evasion techniques that throw opponents off balance. White CraneProbably the most beautiful Kung-fu style to watch, and the deadliest, the white crane is a defensive art form. This style is only ever used in defence of others or the practitioner. The white crane style tries to avoid contact with the enemy, and destroy them with one powerful blow. Hung GarHung Gar is a fighting style that stresses close proximity fighting. It was adapted from the Tiger style of fighting, and is great for narrow areas. Fast, accurate strikes are used to disable opponents. Splashing HandsSplashing Hands is another close proximity fighting style. It uses quick foot-work, jabs, punches and elbow work to beat an opponent. It was ideal for street fighting...and still is. Kung-fu in all its forms has been developed over centuries, and has become one of the most lethal and most practiced of all the martial arts forms in the world. Whether you want to learn how to fight from a short range or long, Kung-fu has something to offer you. Another great aspect of Kung-fu is that because it has so many different styles, it’s easier to find one that suits you as an individual. If you’re short but fast, the monkey style would be ideal for you. However, if you’re long-legged, the white crane style may suit you better. |
